Your privacy, in plain language
The Light We Carry is a small, non-commercial community project. We collect as little as possible, we never sell anything, and we only use what you share to run the project you took part in. Here's exactly what that means.
What we collect
- When you nominate someone: your name and email, the name and email of the person you're nominating, your relationship to them, and what you wrote about why.
- When you're nominated and choose to share your story: the answers you write, a short role or bio, and one photo you choose to upload.
- When you subscribe to updates: your email address and the date you confirmed.
- Basic technical data: our server keeps short-lived logs (such as the address of a request and the time it happened) to keep the site working and to spot abuse. These are not used to profile you.
How we use it
- To confirm a nomination with the person who made it (we ask you to click a link so we know the email is really yours).
- To invite a nominated person to share their story, and to tell them who nominated them and what was said — that note is the heart of the invitation.
- To publish stories that people have consented to share.
- To send the occasional newsletter, only to people who confirmed they want it, and only ever one message per new story.
What we publish
A story only goes public after the person it's about has written it themselves and ticked the box consenting to publish. We publish the name, role, photo, and answers they chose to share. Email addresses are never published — not the nominator's, not the nominee's, not a subscriber's.
What we never do
- We never sell, rent, or trade your information.
- We don't run advertising or third-party trackers.
- We don't share your details with anyone except where we genuinely have to by law.
Keeping it safe
Uploaded photos are re-processed on our side before they're stored, which strips out hidden data they may carry. We use confirmation links so that nobody can sign you up or nominate using your email without your say-so. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the moving parts few and simple on purpose.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe anytime. Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link — no login needed.
- Ask us to remove your story or data. Email us and we'll take it down and delete your details. There's no form to fight with.
- Ask what we hold. Email us and we'll tell you what's associated with your address.
Children
This is a project for and about adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child's information has been shared with us, please get in touch and we'll remove it.

We may update this policy as the project grows. When we do, we'll change the date below. This is a community-project policy written in good faith; it isn't formal legal advice.
